AUTHOR: Called among the Israelites "the book of praise", or simply "praises". Many of the Psalms are anonymous and there is doubt as to the authorship of some of them. The titles attribute 73 of them to King David, 12 to Asaph, 10 to the sons of Korah, 2 to Solomon, 1 to Heman, 1 to Ethan, and 1 to Moses. 50 Psalms Are Of Unknown Authorship, Jewish Scholars Call Them "Orphan Psalms".
THEME: The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetry related to God's love for human beings and expressions of language that demonstrate God's character and His specific way of being. relate to His creation. The Psalms deal with praises to God, reflect the worship, devotional life and religious feeling of about a thousand years of Israel's history. It is a collection of inspired Hebrew poetry that depicts worship and describes the spiritual experiences of the Jewish people. The Psalms are closely related to the liturgy. King David organized choirs and orchestras, choosing composers and conductors to lead the worship [1Ch 25]. 55 psalms are addressed specifically to the “major cantor”, that is, the worship leader. The theme of the Psalms: God is to be praised in all circumstances of life; and this because of his faithfulness in the past, which is a guarantee of his faithfulness in the future.”
COMPILATION: The Book of Psalms is a compilation of several ancient collections of songs and poetry suitable for use in both congregational worship and private devotion, covering an extensive period from 1410 to 430 B.C. It consists of 150 chapters and 2461 verses.
