AUTHOR: As in Genesis, the author of Exodus was Moses, whose name means "taken out of the waters", is the central figure of Exodus. He is the Hebrew prophet who led the expected out of Egypt. Moses received revelation of the things God desired him to know through the process of inspiration from the Holy Spirit, and he communicated to the Hebrew people, both orally and in writing, this information that was revealed to him.
ORIGIN OF NAME: The Hebrew name of this book is "Shemot". The translators of the Septuagint gave the book the title of Exodus because it narrates the departure of the people of God from Egypt from the Greek term "éksodos", which means "passage" or "exit" and from the Latin, "exo" means "out " and "odos" means "way", getting "out of the way".
THEME: This book describes the history of the people of Israel from the death of Joseph, to the birth and upbringing of Moses. The central idea is the departure of the people of Israel from Egypt and redemption through blood. Yahweh not only delivers his people from Egyptian bondage through his power manifested in the plagues, but also redeems them by blood. Around this idea, the history of a people saved by blood, supported by blood and having access to God by blood is concentrated. In order for it to be a holy nation and a kingdom of priests, the nation needed a revelation from God to guide them in the conduct and worship of their new life. God institutes the ten commandments. Accused of holiness by the Law, they felt the need for purification. God provides them with a system of sufferings so that they can approach Him and worship Him. So God gives them the Tabernacle and ordains the priesthood.

COMPILATION: Conclusive evidence as to the precise date of the exodus is lacking. There are two main opinions regarding this issue. According to the first, the exodus would date, more or less, around 1440 BC, as the second opinion took place in the reign of Ramses II, between 1260 and 1240 BC, there is no doubt that the people emerged from Egypt in the lapse between 1450 and 1220 BC, so it is possible that the book of Exodus was compiled on the journey through the desert. It is the second book of the Pentateuch, consisting of 40 chapters and 1213 verses.
