AUTHOR: Like the previous letter, the author was the apostle Paul.
THEME: The theme of Paul's Second Epistle to the Thessalonians is the second coming of Christ. It came to the ears of the apostle Paul, from the very men who had delivered the first letter to the addressees and who had now returned it, that in Thessalonica, although there had been some spiritual growth, the persecution of Christians had increased and that some of these had misunderstood the teaching. of Paul concerning the second coming of Christ. The announcement that Jesus could return at any time caused some Christians to stop working and just wait, looking in Paul's teaching for justifications for their idleness. Paul's purpose in this epistle is similar to that of I Thessalonians, having as its purpose: to encourage new converts during a new outbreak of persecution [ 2Th 1:4 ]; correct the misunderstanding about the Lord's return, informing that certain events need to occur before the second coming [ 2Th 2:1-12 ]; reproaching those who behaved disorderly [ 2Th 3: 6 ], exhorting them to bear good Christian testimony and to work each one for his livelihood.
COMPILATION: The Apostle Paul wrote the second epistle [ 2Th 1:1 ] shortly after the first, probably within a period of a few months, at Corinth in the year 51/52 A.D. It consists of 3 chapters and 47 verses.
