AUTHOR: The apostle Paul, according to [ 1 Tim 1:1 ].
THEMATIC: This epistle was written by Paul to provide encouragement and instruction to Timothy concerning his ministry and personal life; to give authority to Timothy before the Church and to carry out the difficult task of denouncing the teachings of the false teachers of that Church [1Tim 1:3-4]. Since the eighteenth century, three letters of the apostle Paul to two of his younger co-workers, 1st and 2nd Timothy and Titus, have been called "Pastoral Epistles". This epistle was written to Timothy, Paul's frequent traveling companion and close friend, to provide authority, encouragement, and instruction. Paul had sent Timothy to the Church in Ephesus to stop the false teaching that had arisen there. Timothy likely served for some time as a leader in the Church at Ephesus. Paul wanted to visit him, but in the meantime he wrote this letter to give Timothy practical instructions on ministry.
COMPILATION: Paul's First Epistle to Timothy was written about A.D. 64. and sent probably from Macedonia (perhaps Philippi), after having visited the city of Ephesus. It consists of 6 chapters and 113 verses.
